Umar John is a filmmaker, executive producer, director, media professional, musician, poet, and cultural entrepreneur whose career spans more than two decades. His professional journey developed across South Asia, Dubai, and the United States, giving his work an international perspective rooted in the intimacy of independent storytelling.
As founder of Hummingbird Film Studios, he has built creative work across film, television, journalism, digital media, music, branding, and cultural production. His practice centers on emotional truth, cultural memory, and the power of narrative to travel across languages and communities.
His institution-building extends beyond production. Through arts and cultural initiatives, independent-film platforms, community events, and international collaborations, he has worked to create space for emerging voices and to connect culture with civic understanding.
